about
This song reflects upon the time recorded in 'Mathew', when Jesus went off with His disciples to the garden of Gethsemane, where He asked the disciples to watch and to pray with him, but they fell asleep.
To be asleep is to not be concious and Jesus asks us to stay awake, to be aware of His presence, to listen to His Spirit alive within us and to trust and act on His calling.
lyrics
GETHSEMANE
By Bruce Norman
Won't you wait with me, in my time of great need?
My soul is sorrowful unto death. Stay awake with me.
Falling on my face I pray. Father, take this cup away.
Let it be as You, not I would have it.
Do you not have the strength to pray
and stay awake for one hour?
Pray not to be tested, for the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Again, I go away to pray, if this cup cannot be taken away
then Father, let Your will be done.
Could you not stay awake with me?
Your eyes are heavy with sleep.
I will leave you here and pray again a third time.
Father, let your will be done.
Now the hour has come.
The Son of Man is to be betrayed.
Get up, let us go. My betrayer is already close at hand.
Give me your trust, in your time of great need.
I'm always near to you, don't you know!
Stay awake with me.
Stay awake with me.
Won't you wait with me?
